Dehydration is a skin state and all skin, whether oily, dry or combination, is susceptible to it. Dehydrated skin is skin that lacks water. Dehydration can occur due to various factors: environmental (cold, pollution, UV, etc.), external (cigarettes, alcohol), emotional (stress, tiredness), inappropriate cosmetic products, or medical treatments (e.g. for acne). The hydrolipidic film on the skins surface forms a natural shield which slows down the evaporation of skin moisture. Hydration is essential to maintain this barrier function. If the skin lacks water, its barrier function is affected and moisture escapes more quickly. As a result, skin becomes less supple and radiant, and feels tight and uncomfortable. Dehydration fine lines can also appear.
